Even though the name wasn't created until the 1800's, the philosophy dates back farther than that. According to Huxley, all characteristics of religions are open to scientific investigation and need to be proven with evidence. There has been much debate over this particular religion, but no major outbreaks. Once a hypothesis was tested, Sir Leslie Stephen became the official leader of the new found religion. After the death of Stephen, there was no profound leader. However, the teachings began to evolve and have spread over many parts of Western Europe.
